NSAID Evolution

Pain medication has been around since the turn of the century. Drugs approved for humans were often prescribed for dogs, but often with unforeseen side effects. But today DERAMAXX®, the next generation in canine osteoarthritis (OA) pain control is available for your dog.

How it all started: The evolution of NSAID chemistry for the control of pain.

DERAMAXX is a coxib-class nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) approved by the Food and Drug Administration for veterinary use. Deracoxib, the active ingredient in DERAMAXX, belongs to the same class of NSAIDs (CELEBREX® (celecoxib)* and BEXTRA® (valdecoxib)* ) that have dramatically changed the way human OA pain is managed.

As with all drugs in this class, side effects involving the digestive system, kidneys or liver may occur. These are normally mild, but may be serious. Pet owners should discontinue therapy and contact their veterinarian immediately if side effects occur. Evaluation for preexisting conditions and regular monitoring are recommended for pets on any medication, including Deramaxx. Use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids should be avoided.
